JFK Hyannis Museum is proud to announce Educational Member HoYin Yuen is named Middle School Art Educator of the Year by the Massachusetts Art Education Association.
Barnstable Intermediate School art teacher HoYin Yuen, recently named Middle School Art Educator of the Year, leads a class.
HoYin Yuen became an art teacher because he knew it would always be engrossing. He didn’t expect to win any awards, so he was happily surprised to learn he was named Middle School Art Educator of the Year for 2016 by the Massachusetts Art Education Association.
Yuen has been teaching at Barnstable Intermediate School for four years. Before that, he taught for two years in Bourne. A native Cape Codder, Yuen grew up in Brewster and attended Nauset Regional High School before going off to earn his undergraduate degree at Emmanuel College in Boston and then completing a master’s degree in art education at UMass Dartmouth. He loves Cape Cod and knew from the start he wanted to return here to teach.
He was attracted to Barnstable “because of its diversity, as well as the leadership and reputation of the art department at the high school led by Carl Lopes,” he said. “I was excited to be part of the education process of a great art program.”
