The Revolutionary War on Cape Cod and the Islands:
Issues, Events and the People
Join us for a cup of coffee as we listen to David Martin discuss his illustrated book The Revolutionary War on Cape Cod and the Islands. This illustrated book celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth of our country, bringing together events, narratives, and many little-known stories of the Revolution on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket.
In an engaging presentation and interactive discussion, Dr. Martin will explore the major events, notable local figures, and significant contributions of Cape Cod and the Islands to America’s fight for independence. His talk dispels the common belief that this region remained on the sidelines during the Revolution, uncovering the vital part our communities played in shaping the nation’s history.

Cape and Islands Historians Committee authors researched and tell of the colonies’ battles, privateering, British shipwrecks, contentious splits between Loyalists and Patriots, and the service of African Americans and Native Americans fighting to separate from the tyranny of British rule. From the end of the French and Indian Wars in 1761 to the Treaty of Paris in 1783, many individuals on the Cape and Islands played a major role in changing the “United Colonies” to the “United States of America”.
